ADR orange panels: size and positioning
We often see ADR transport vehicles on the roads in full regulation with orange panels of various sizes and orientation, let's try to clarify this aspect.
The main misunderstandings, which are also the reason for the major fines, mainly concern the size of the orange panels. We often see trucks, tow trucks, tank trucks, etc., signalled with small orange panels (300x120 mm) when the vehicle could safely be signalled with the 400x300 mm orange panel. Almost all the time the reduced panel is affixed to the front of the vehicle, easily visible for the experienced eyes of roadside enforcement officers.
Here below some indicative guidelines, it is good to remember that if there is space on the vehicle for the 400x300 mm signal this must compulsorily be used.
400 x 300 mm OR 300 x 120 mm, WHICH AND WHEN?
Orange panel size guidelines
According to ADR regulations the panel must be 400 x 300 mm in size, which can be reduced to 300 x 120 mm only if the vehicle does not allow the 400 x 300 mm panel to be affixed.

As with other ADR-required signalling elements, there are strict rules for orange panels as well: you cannot rotate the orange panel because the required size is 400x300.
